Typing plateau cheat sheet
Measure the bottleneck, train it briefly, then transfer it to real text.
Every session
- Record WPM, accuracy, raw speed, and consistency.
- Run control work below maximum speed.
- Run short bursts above comfortable speed.
- Finish with quotes, punctuation, numbers, or real prose.
Starting settings for a 98 WPM typist
| Block | Target | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Control | About 83–93 WPM | Prioritize clean, relaxed input and correct errors. |
| Bursts | About 103–113 WPM | Use short intervals; stop before technique collapses. |
| Transfer | Natural pace | Use quotes, punctuation, numbers, or real writing. |
Diagnosis
- Same key repeatedly wrong → isolate that key or transition.
- Many wrong shifts or punctuation marks → add a punctuation block.
- Accuracy collapses only in bursts → lower burst length, not posture quality.
- Speed is high but inconsistent → practice even pacing and relaxed starts.
- Pain, tingling, or numbness → stop and address the setup or seek professional advice.
Ergonomics
Keep shoulders relaxed, elbows near the body, and wrists roughly straight and aligned with the forearms. Change position and take short movement breaks instead of holding one posture for a long period.
